Translation opens doors.
For readers, it provides stories and voices beyond their countries’ borders. For writers, it grants access to a wider audience, putting their books in the laps of readers all over the world.
It builds bridges: between readers and writers, between languages and cultures. It makes stories accessible to audiences eager and passionate, but locked behind a language barrier.
Yet translation is not accessible.
Generally speaking, only authors who already have an established reader base in the language they write in (usually, traditionally published authors) get a chance at seeing their work translated into other languages.
For small-time, self-published and independent authors, setting aside money to fund a professional translation of their works is often just not a feasible expense. Even for bilingual authors who could technically translate their own works, the time and effort it takes to produce a translation might simply not be a reasonable priority. So what’s an indie writer to do?
Enter Indieversal Translator.
Through crowdfunding, we want to facilitate the translation of queer, indie fiction! It’s really a simple concept. Interested readers (like you!) fund the project, we collaborate with authors who give permission to produce translations of their works and hire carefully vetted translators, proofreaders and cover artists to produce them.
Readers get access to their favorite queer, indie works in translation, translators get paid well for their services and the writers get full freedom to do whatever they want with the translations after a brief exclusivity period. It’s a win-win-win situation!
